A great feature of the Glencoco platform is that we've set up automated payouts for our users. There is a separate, more in-depth article about how payouts and the timing of payouts work, but the headline is that when a sales meeting you've set is marked as qualified by the company on the other side of the marketplace, this triggers an automated payout through our Stripe integration for a direct deposit to your bank account.
In order for this automation to work successfully, you'll need to connect a bank account of your choice to our platform. To do this, we use Stripe. If you've never heard of Stripe, you can think of it as similar to Paypal. We use Stripe because it is a reputable, $50B company that takes its security very seriously (Stripe Security Docs), and because it has great, flexible infrastructure to build payments across our platform.
When setting up Stripe, it's important to have Stripe Express's support docs handy: https://support.stripe.com/express. We reference this extensively for all questions specifically related to Stripe.
We do not store your bank account information, nor do we want to. That's why we use Stripe.
Setting Up Payouts
If you're logged in, go to Settings (gear icon in top right) -> Payouts. You'll see a "Connect with Stripe" option if you haven't connected yet, where you'll be taken to Stripe's setup page. It's very important to select the correct country applicable to you the first time you setup your Stripe account through Glencoco because it's very difficult to change this once you've set it up.
!! Important!! When Choosing a Business Category for Stripe...
We've had some user reports that Stripe restricts Stripe Express Business accounts if the category they choose is "Telemarketing". Sometimes this is an issue for some users, and sometimes it's not. To avoid headaches, we recommend choosing a category like "Consultant", "Business Development", or "Marketing/Advertising" instead.
Frequently Asked Questions Related to Stripe Setup
Can I use a business/LLC bank account?
Answer: Yes, you can if you'd like to set your account up as a LLC for tax purposes.
Can I sign up with any bank account in the world?
Answer: Currently, we only support users with access to bank accounts in the countries listed in the Eligibility Requirements doc. The Stripe setup process has you go through a KYC (Know Your Customer) identity verification flow as part of this setup.
I'm based overseas and I'd still like to use the platform. Can I still use Glencoco?
Answer: As long as you have access to a bank account from the countries listed in our Eligibility Requirements doc, you can use our platform from anywhere in the world, provided you have a laptop, a good wifi connection, and a quiet place to work.
I'm being asked to include my website as part of the Stripe setup process. What should I use?
Answer: If you're signing up as an individual 1099 contractor and you don't have an applicable personal or business website, you can just use your linkedin profile.
Can you pay out through Paypal, Zelle, Venmo, CashApp, Revolut, or any other forms of payouts besides through Stripe?
Answer: Currently, Stripe is the only option, with the exception of South Africa and Australia, which are in beta mode, where we use a separate system to process payouts. Any other options are not supported at this time.
How are taxes handled?
Answer: We do not withhold taxes. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for managing your own records for Glencoco income for tax-filing purposes. We issue W-9s upon request. Over time, we will be providing more documentation and resources to help you and other independent contractors manage these. For more information about 1099 tax forms, Stripe Express' documentation provides very clear context and answers, and the link to this documentation can be found here: https://support.stripe.com/express/topics/1099-tax-forms
Does Glencoco Offer Instant Deposits via Stripe?
Answer: this is a global configuration in Stripe that we can turn on in the platform instead of the standard 2-3 business day delay, but we've chosen not to turn it on primarily because turning on instant deposits would result in a 1.5% fee, which impacts rep earnings and margins. We understand some users would prefer a faster payout, but to put it in perspective, 2-3 business days is still plenty faster than the typical bi-weekly or monthly payout cycle that's standard in the United States and most countries in the world.
I'm having trouble logging into Stripe - it's requiring me to verify my account details but I lost my bank account or credit card number.
Answer: Stripe accounts are separate from Glencoco and you are responsible for following the Stripe documentation for proper setup. For any issues related to logging into your Stripe account, you'll need to contact Stripe directly as they are a separate business from Glencoco and we cannot provide support. To contact stripe support, you can either log into your stripe account via the purple Stripe button in your Settings -> payouts and find the support channels there, or open a new tab and log into stripe using the email account you set up stripe with and communicate with them. Fortunately, Stripe is well-known for having both prompt customer support if you interact with them and robust documentation and instructions if you log into their website or visit their website.
I'm not seeing my correct country option in Stripe. It only gives me options in certain currencies or countries. Help!
